Solana Beach, Ca -- Solana Beach City Councilman Dave Roberts announced today that he will run for the 50th District Congressional seat held by Republican Congressman Brian Bilbray.

Dave Roberts will join Democrat candidates Francine Busby and Tracy Emblem.  The primary will be held in June of 2010 and the General Election against Mr. Bilbray will be the following November.

Del Mar, Ca -- The contract to run the Del Mar Racetrack currently held by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club will be up for grabs in December.

The DMTC has run the race track since 1968 and had its lease renewed twenty years ago.  It is unlikely that they will not receive renewal, however bids are being accepted.  Del Mar has one of the few profitable race tracks on the west coast.

Bids are due September 14th.

Del Mar, Ca -- Concerned with the increase in bicyclists over the past ten years and the safety for riders and pedestrians, many cities are considering alterations to existing roadways.

In cities as large as Philadelphia, advocates are introducing using parked cars as a buffer between traffic and bike lanes.

Del Mar, Ca --  The Del Mar City Council will begin to hold public hearings to discuss what should be done to repay $3.2 million dollars owed for the purchase of the Shores property.

The loan was taken out to purchase the Del Mar Shores school campus in 2008 at a price of $8.5 million.  Friends of Del Mar Parks were able to raise an unprecedented $5 million for the down payment.

Del Mar, Ca -- "Happy Happens!"  So goes the new ad campaign launched by San Diego in an attempt to reign in a greater amount of tourism commerce.

The San Diego campaign is becoming increasingly more common as local cities enact funding destination marketing known as Tourism Business Improvement Districts.

The movement largely began in 1992 when the city of West Hollywood began a 1.5% tax of gross room rental revenue to raise an annual $1.1. million for tourism promotion.

Del Mar -- The city agreed to purchase 5.2 acres of excess public school property for $8.5M for use as a park and private school on the condition that all of the purchase price will be raised from the community.  

At the closing date, the fundraisers had $5M + in funds and said that they can raise the balance of the purchase price in 12 months.

Frequented by dog owners from across the county, Dog Beach at the Northern border of Del Mar may be forced to close soon.

Ocean Beach and Del Mar dog beaches are on the State Water Resources Control Board priority lists for beaches in danger.  These beaches frequently exceed state water quality standards for indicator bacteria.
